While internet is crawling with home-made car and home mp players, I started a project of mine similar to those players. It is like my contribution to mp3 player and its first inovators. Mp3 player is a very useful and easy to use.

But even mp3 players vary from one onother. So you have your hands free in choosing one that suits you. First mp3 player was (is) Linux based and it was be placed in a car. Hugo did a great job with first mp3 car player. I liked it right away and tried to build one myself, but I was lacking in Linux skills, so I canceled my plans on having a perfect sound in my car...

Later on, when I visited mp3.com hardware page I was stunned how many mp3 players were made. Again I tried to use Linux (with ELMP)but again I got stuck, this time, hardware wasn't up to my demands. Two months later I discovered WINDOWS based mp3 player and (finally) built one. It is win95 with winamp and lots of plugins for controling IR, keypad and LCD out display. Works like a blast and I'm very happy with it. All I have to do is insert a cd-rom containig my favourite mp3s or plain audio cd and it starts playing first track and continues till all the tunes are listened to (or I ran out of electricity ;).

But that is not enough for me, yet. I'm working on car mp3 player that works in good-all-DOS. Why? Because booting to Windows takes about 40 - 50 sec. for my system, and surely don't want to wait 50 sec. to listen to tunes once I'm in my car. So again Linux came in mind, but booting it from a disskette (ELMP) just takes too loooong (1-2 min.). What about DOS I thought for myself? Again went to mp3.com and like for me there were several DOS mp3 players made and waiting for building with all the instuctions written down.

It uses mpxplay (popular DOS mp3 player). I can also play audio CDs under DOS so it is perfect for car use.

For all specs on hardware and software look in HARDWARE , SOFWARE and POWER SUPPLY pages.
